Hospital acquires two dialysis machines
The National, Monday July 14th, 2014
KIDNEY patients will be relieved now that the Port Moresby General Hospital has two new dialysis machines, chairman of the PNG Kidney Foundation Martin Poh said.
Poh said dialysis machines filtered patient’s blood to remove excess water and waste products when the kidney failed or was damaged.
“We want locals who are suffering from this disease to access services at the cheapest price to enable them to live longer,” Poh said.
“This is the first computer-controlled dialysis machines put in the government hospital for patients to be treated right.”
The foundation will assist locals who cannot afford treatment overseas.
It said it was committed to help people to value their lives.
Poh said greater educational awareness should be done on kidney disease, how the disease was formed, food relating to its formation, how kidney patients would use the equipment and what sort of food to eat to avoid the diseases.
The foundation said people suffering from kidney failure should apply for dialysis service through the foundation at Borneo Pacific Office at Gordon’s in Port Moresby.
