Hospital doctors providing poor medical services

Letters

I AM a regular patient at St Mary’s hospital in Boroko, NCD, and want to vent my frustrations on certain doctors who have been treating and diagnosing patients.
I visited the hospital five times during June after having sharp chest pains, back aches, head ache, jaw pain and knee pain.
However, I haven’t fully recovered after spending almost K1800 for the five consultations.
The first visit and consultation with a doctor cost me K500 but the doctor failed to diagnose me properly with any virus or bacteria even after undergoing a costly x-ray scan and a blood test.
So I had to go back for the second consultation which cost another K400.
The x-ray scan was done with new blood test and this time a new doctor successfully diagnosed me with typhoid bacteria.
After taking injection and medication as prescribed the typhoid symptoms disappeared.
However, I got struck with new dengue fever which was linked to the first typhoid bacteria.
And my third visit to the clinic cost me another K600 where I met the same first doctor whom I saw first.
Blood test was done, medication was prescribed and taken and after two weeks I found out that I have not been fully recovered from the dengue fever.
So I will now have to spend another K500 or K600 to go back for a fourth review and consultation.
This adds more frustrated to me as I may not have the money to visit the clinic this time.
I now question if proper qualified doctors are engaged there to treat patients or is it an intention from doctors to allow patients going back and forth to make more money for the clinic.
I therefore urge the management to improve the services as we expect much better service in return for the money spent.
