Hospital gets new ambulance

THE Kainantu Hospital now has a fully kitted ambulance to serve people in the district and Eastern Highlands.
The ambulance was purchased by the Eastern provincial health authority through a request made by the Kainantu District Hospital acting chief medical administrator Dr Nene Susuke.
Dr Susuke said many requests for assistance had been made to the Government, but had not received favourable responses until the provincial health authority’s board, through chairman late Malcom Kela Smith, approved the request.
“I had a few things in mind and a shopping list of my own and one of the very important things was an ambulance,” he said.
“We only have one 10-seater with 421 referrals per year; that is two to three referrals a day that our vehicle attends to.”
He said he sometimes used his private vehicle to transport patients to the hospital or to attend to emergencies.
“I knew I had to do something, so I started writing to partners for assistance, including Obura-Wonenara MP, Kainantu development authority , the Eastern Highlands government and others,” Dr Susuke said.
