Hospital gets ultrasound machine

A NEW butterfly ultrasound machine donated to Kandep hospital in Enga will help doctors diagnose and treat patients, especially mothers with pregnancy complication, an official says.
Dr Robert Imambu said the ultrasound machine allowed doctors detect injuries and other complications in the body such as broken bones and stages of pregnancy and any abnormalities that were present.
He said medical staff had to induce the birth of a baby earlier than expected this week because they suspected that there was a problem with placenta but they could not tell for certain, but, now with the ultra sound machine, they would be able to diagnose and treat these complications safely.
Dr Imambu said two mothers had recently passed away in Kandep due to birthing complications and an ultra sound machine would have helped save their lives.
He said the ultra sound machine was donated by PNG Tribal Foundation with funds raised by United Styates-based civic group Telluride Rotary on Colorado.
The machine comes along with a solar charger.
PNGTF president GT Bustin said his foundation wanted to help people in the districts by providing much needed healthcare support.
