Hospital plans to seek govt intervention

THE Laloki Hospital will seek Government’s intervention to resolve its water supply problem which has forced its closure if nothing is resolved this week, an official says.
Hospital clinical supervisor Jeffrey Alphones said they planned to sign an agreement with Eda Ranu to reconnect the supply.
The hospital recently released its 100 patients after staff members raised concerns over the water supply issue.
He urged the Health Department to resolve the matter as the welfare of the 100 patients was a big concern.
He said 15 were in a very “unstable mind state”.
“We want the department to treat our water issue as a matter of urgency,” Alphonse said.
“We feel we are being dragged by the Department of Health on this particular issue as that has been the tactic they were using for the last 18 years.
“Easter is a time of family get-together and church celebrations. But the situation we have is a real blow to the mentally-ill patients and the staff.
“It is evident that they (department) are not serious about our welfare. They still want us to keep using bore-hole water.”
Health Department senior standards technical adviser hospital operations Magaru Mulau visited the hospital with executive manager standard division and chief medical officer Dr Gua Tau and chief psychiatrist Dr Monica Hagali last Friday.
