THE Nonga Base Hospital in East New Britain has taken delivery of medical equipment and accessories donated by Rotary International.

The medical equipment was received by the deputy provincial administrator, policy and planning, Levi Mano, witnessed by the Rabaul district administrator Marakan Uvano and the district health coordinator Joshua Wowo over the weekend.

When presenting the equipment, president of Rotary in the province Anthony Lilou said: “The presentation was from the first of three containers which had been received from Australia for Nonga Base Hospital.

“As much as possible, the same amount of medical equipment will also be dispatched to Vunapope Hospital once they are available in the province.”

He explained that also in the containers were desks and tables to be dispatched to Rabaul and Vunapalading elementary schools.

“In the last 10 years, Rotary has just about assisted all the schools in the province and has also connected Sikut aid post to Rotary Australia which is now dealing directly with them.”

When accepting the donation, Mano thanked Rotary for the network which they have which has enabled the province to obtain much needed basic supplies which are seen to assist in the service delivery process in the province.

“It is very pleasing to see that the private sector is coming out strongly in the area of service delivery and, especially, the Rotary Club which is run by people who are not part of the government system but are volunteers who have the heart for the people and this province.”

He explained that as a way forward, Rabaul administrator Uvano and district health coordinator Wowo would work with the Rotary Club secretary to ensure the medical equipment and supplies reach their intended facilities.
