LAE’S Covid-19 facility is expected to have an X-ray machine by the end of this month, an official says.
Dr Lincoln Menda, chairman of the Morobe coronavirus preparedness and response committee, confirmed that the hospital had been operating without a functional X-ray unit.
He said the existing X-ray machine donated by the International Atomic Energy Agency had been left idle for more than a year because it was not compatible with the country’s power system.
“If we are to get the power from our system into that system, that would cost us roughly about K300,000 which is equivalent to us buying another X-ray machine,” Dr Menda said.
“So the Australian government has seen that and has promised to give us another one.
“We are expecting that by mid-May.”
