THE Gerehu General Hospital in Port Moresby has pledged to work with the newly-opened Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) Gerehu TB (tuberculosis) clinic to deliver medical services to TB patients.
“Now that the Gerehu TB clinic is opened, we would like to work closely with them to address TB in Port Moresby,” Gerehu Hospital medical services director Ruben Kitenbing said.
Kitenbing made the comment during the opening of a TB clinic built by MSF on Tuesday.
He said medical officers at Gerehu hospital would work alongside MSF staff to address TB cases in the city.
“We are looking at putting a senior medical officer attached with MSF to be team leader for the Gerehu TB team.”
Kitenbing said once an exit programme for MSF was developed, they would have a team in place to take over the TB programme.
MSF head of mission to PNG Dr Yann Diplo said they were happy to work together with Gerehu hospital and other partners to fight TB in PNG.
