Hospital welcomes Chinese doctors

Port Moresby General Hospital (PMGH) welcomed a team of seven urology specialist doctors from China yesterday.
Among the delegates was Chongquing director of health, Dr Huang Minghui.
This is his first time to visit Papua New Guinea.
Minghui thanked PMGH for the support given to the previous Chinese medical team and short-term experts to PNG.
He said the team would start operations today with local doctors, and also facilitate in some academic activities.
“Besides academic activities between us, we can provide some opportunities for your doctors to Chongquing to get some training,” Minghui said.
Urologist-chief surgeon and chairman of the Medical Board of PNG, Dr Osborne Liko, said there were few specialist doctors in the country and more should be trained.
Two doctors, Sydney James and Jack Mulu, will be leaving for specialist training in China.
They will be the first doctors to specialise in pediatric-urology, which is performing operations on children born with urinary problems.
Chief executive officer Dr Umesh Gupta, welcomed the Chinese medical team and thanked them for supporting the hospital and people of PNG.
The team will return to China on Saturday.
Another group of medical specialist will come in July.
