PORT Moresby’s Lamana Hotel was the scene of serious assaults on Monday morning when the hotel’s security guards were attacked.
A senior staff of the hotel said six of their guards were beaten and later hospitalised.
“Two are still in the hospital because they have received serious injuries while four were discharged,” the staff member said.
However, staff at the Pacific International Hospital, where the guards were reportedly treated, said they were not aware of injured guards from the hotel being admitted.
They referred questions to their chief executive officer.
Other hotel staff claimed the attackers were policemen but this could not be confirmed last night.
One staff said it seemed that the attack on Monday between 9am and 10am followed a drunken episode by a policeman at the hotel on Saturday night.
The policeman might have been assaulted, the staff said.
