Health education for workers and promoting awareness in the workforce on healthy lifestyle is the best way to remove preventable sicknesses, Intercontinental Hotels Group director of human resources Momo Gavera Vere says.

Vere said the need by Holiday Inn and Crowne Plaza hotels staff for more information on health and personal hygiene led to the  management opening its two-day health expo for free in Port Moresby on Monday.

“Our workers don’t have time to visit health organisations therefore we have hosted this to have our workers educated on living a healthy life,” he said.

“It’s a great opportunity for them to go around in these two days and get as much information as they want.”

On the first day, the staff had learnt about different types of family planning by Marie Stopes, malaria, sexual reproductive health and promotion of condoms by Population Service International (PSI), cheap medical treatment in the Philippines by Yes Health and Leisure and a condom demostration by the National AIDS Council Secretariat.

They were able to get their sugar levels, weight and height checked and had their eyes checked by the PNG eye care unit.

Workers were informed about the prices of medicines at City Pharmacy.
