Hotel industry optimistic

A HOTEL in Port Moresby is hoping the industry can pick up again following a tough 2020 for businesses due to the Covid-19.
Holiday Inn general manager Robert Coates said this following comments from Airways and The Stanley Hotel and Suits on recording no tourists this year for the Independence celebration compared to last year and the previous years.
“There’s no question that it’s been an exceptionally challenging first half of the year and we are not seeing the occupancy rate we had before the crisis,” Coates said.
“Sadly, we haven’t seen much improvement yet and the months ahead don’t yet offer the clarity we need around the pace of recovery.
“But I truly believe people will travel again and am confident that our industry will bounce back as strong as ever.
“For now, in a time of such uncertainty, we are keeping focus on what we can control, that is delivering true hospitality, looking after our people and supporting our shareholders,” he said.
Officials from Airways Hotel and The Stanley Hotel and Suites in Port Moresby have said the Covid-19 had resulted in zero number of overseas visitors.
