EDUCATION got the biggest slice in the 2012 budget.
The government has made education its top priority and many parents are pleased.
The government has decided to do away with the outcomes-based education and brought back the old system in the name of providing quality education in the country
With free education next year, more students are expected to enrol.
This has led to two fundamental questions that must be addressed by the government.
Firstly, how can the government provide quality education when there is no proper infrastructure in place?
Let’s assume that every school has enough tables, chairs and books for its students.
Will every school, from the urban to the rural areas, have access to the internet?
As many schools do not have libraries, the best and cheapest way for students to do research is through the internet.
Secondly, does the government have any plans to help the dropouts?
At the moment, even graduates are unable to find employment.
As such, the government must find ways to create employment for both our graduates and dropouts.
