HTA gives K10,000 to students’ union

DEVELOPING the human resource of Hela is important to sustain the province long after all the gas and oil are gone.
Chief executive officer of Hela Transitional Authority William Bando said this when presenting a cheque for K10,000 to the Hela Union of Students (HUS) in Port Moresby yesterday.
“Hela is a young province and students are the future of the province.”
He said HTA valued education highly and was committed to supporting Hela students.
He challenged students to be the light in the dark saying law and order problem had increased in Hela over the years.
“You must be disciplined and maintain your character,” he said.
He said many things were happening in the province including the LNG project and that the student as future leaders must go back to the province to develop it.
HUS president Hela Kaiabe thanked Bando for his support and said the money would be used to buy necessary equipment to update the HUS student database.
Kaiabe said the money, among other things, would be used to buy a special computer software to link up the database with a website and a camera to take pictures of students upon registration.
Kaiabe said HUS was a mouth-piece of all Hela students in the country and a forum that united students of Hela-origin.
Bando was pleased with the initiative by the students and said more support would come from HTA next year.
