HUGO Canning Company Limited kick-started the 2010 Miss PNG quest by becoming the major sponsors and chipping in K30,000 to the PNG Red Cross Society at its headquarters in Port Moresby last Thursday.
The ‘bully beef’ company became partners when they sponsored an entrant for this year’s quest, which saw Miss Ox & Palm, Bridgette Wase, taking out the Miss Charity crown.
“We are proud to be major sponsors of this worthy event,” Hugo Canning Company Ltd general manager, David Slape, said during the handover ceremony.
“We will look forward to sponsoring an entrant again in the 2012 quest, but for now we will be behind the scenes,” Mr Slape said.
The company has decided to assist in a different manner by becoming the major sponsor through sponsoring behind-the-scenes preparations leading up to the crowning.
Secretary-general of the PNG Red Cross Society, Esmie Sinapa, said the sponsorship was timely and a boost for the quest.
“Ms Wase has been very instrumental with her charity work and we are happy that Hugo Canning has become our major sponsor again.
“This money will go into organising the quest and for the engagement of experts to manage the quest.
“We are a charity organisation and we deal with humanitarian work, so we have to hire experts to do the job for us. Most of this money will go into organizing the quest,” Ms Sinapa said.
She said so far, six candidates had registered their interest for next year’s quest and she appealed to business houses and corporate bodies to come forward and sponsor entrants willing to part take in the quest.
The quest will be launched next Feb 3 and will run for only three months before the crowing next May 8, which will coincide with the International Red Cross Red Crescent Day.
