Hula man gets 41 years for robbery and rape

THE National Court in Lae has jailed a Central province man for 41 years over a 2003 armed robbery and abduction and rape of an 18-year-old woman at East Taraka, Lae.
Kila Wini Poka, 33, of Hula, Rigo district, appeared before Justice Gabi last Wednesday.
Poka was sentenced to 15 years for armed robbery, six years for abduction and 20 years for rape and will serve the sentences concurrently.
The court was told that on April 3, 2003, between 11am and 12 noon, Poka and three others went to the house of the victim armed with two home-made shotguns and an axe.
They held up the family and stole goods worth K4,000.
They also held up the young woman, took her out of the house and into the dark, and took turns sexually penetrating her.
