POLICE are looking for a woman who allegedly assaulted a three-year-old boy left in her care.
The boy has been admitted at Madang’s Modilon Hospital.
A police source in Madang said they were looking for the woman after the matter was reported to them by the boy’s mother.
The source said it was a serious offence and the suspect would likely be charged under the Lukautim Pikinini Act.
“This is clear child abuse and that babysitter should face the full force of the law when we find her,” he said.
A family member said the boy was admitted at the children’s ward on Saturday, a day after the alleged attack.
The boy’s mother said the babysitter, who was related to the family, fled after a family member raised the alarm.
The incident happened around 3pm on Friday at their home at Sisiak in Madang.
