THE SP Hunters will play a trial match against Ron Massey Cup Fijian side, Kaiviti Silktails, in one of their two trial matches before the kick-off of the 2022 Hostplus Cup (formerly Queensland Intrust Super Cup) season.
Coach Matthew Church said yesterday that the other trial match would be against 2021 wooden spooners Central Queensland Capras.
He said both trials would be played in Queensland, Australia.
However, Church said the venues both matches had yet to be confirmed.
“Unfortunately, there won’t be any trial matches in Port Moresby due to the Coronavirus situation,” he said.
“But we will play two trials after we relocate to Runaway Bay on the Gold Coast.
“Right now, we are working on the Silktails trial which will be played in Queensland when they also relocate from Fiji.
“At some stage, we will have another trial against the Capras.”
Meanwhile, Church said his train-on squad rookies were continuing to push the old faces at training.
“That’s what we want to see, but we’re also asking them to do more,” he said.
“I am happy with front-rowers Francis Kembis and Tony Worot.
“I pick trainees of the week.
“Worot won the first week of training and Kembis won it last week.”
