DIGICEL Cup and SP Hunters players on Friday made a donation to the National Capital District’s Food Bank to assist people affected by economic downturn over the Covid-19 pandemic.
The donations were part of the Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League’s social responsibility towards the community with the donations made at the Digicel head office in Gordon.
PNG National Rugby League Competition manager Stanley Hondina said it was a way of giving back to people who love rugby league.
“Our game is played and loved by the people and we appreciate it,” he said. “So amid the pandemic, we’re showing our support through Digicel.
“Now they (Digicel) have an organised system to feed disadvantaged people during this time.
“We just want to show that rugby league is not just about playing rugby league, attracting sponsors for the competition and delivering football activities.
“We don’t play the game in a vacuum, we play it where the people are, where the community is.
“As an organisation, our corporate social responsibility is to help our sponsors, communities, the competition and rugby league.”
