THE PAPUA New Guinea Hunters have named a 21-man squad for this Saturday’s trial game against the Ipswich Jets at North Ipswich Reserve in Queensland.

Coach Michael Marum said Wartovo Puara and Thompson Teteh will take their places in the trial after returning from their six-week train-and-trial stint with the South Sydney Rabbitohs.

“While we would have loved to see both boys stay with South Sydney, it’s a bonus to have them back and it will certainly strengthen our squad.

“We are happy to have them back and hope the experience has made them even better players,” Marum said.

“I know both players will be looking forward to a big season with the Hunters and the possibility of another crack at the NRL.”

Several players have been excluded while overcoming offseason injury, including Adex Wera, Sebastian Pandia, Timothy Lomai, Noel Zeming and Edward Goma.

“We want to make sure the majority of the squad is fit and ready for the start of the season.

“It’s a chance for all the new boys to step up and show that they deserve a spot in the 18 for our first game against Souths Logan in three weeks time.”

The match — which kicks off at 5.30pm — is the only pre-season trial for the SP Hunters and will be televised live on TVWan.

The club’s first game of the season kicks off against the South Logan Magpies in Brisbane on Sunday, March 8.

Fans are welcome to attend the Hunters season launch on Sunday March 1 in Port Moresby.

Tables are available at K4500 per table of 10, or K450 per person.
