BRISBANE Broncos captain Alex Glenn is impressed with the PNG Hunters and the progress they have made.
Glenn made the comments during the Broncos and Hunters gala dinner at Stanley Hotel last Friday and reaffirmed them after the pre-season trial at the National Football Stadium on Saturday. “It is so wonderful to be here. Everywhere we went was incredible — the village (Vabukori) and at the stadium (NFS), everyone especially the kids seemed to know our names,” Glenn said.
“This was a great experience to come up to PNG and witness the passion this country has for rugby league.”
The former New Zealand forward commended the Hunters for an improved performance which he said bonded well for the future.
“This was a great game. It was tough and strong and we were made to worked extremely hard for the win and I’m proud of the way the Hunters have played,” Glenn said.
“The Hunters will get better as they continue to play in a competitive competition like the Intrust Super Cup and other events.
“Keep it up and you will be successful on what was shown today (Saturday).
“We were down 12-6 but come back with vigour to work for the win with a lot of intensity and that fired us up in the final 40.
“You have the facilities here which will lift the standard and quality of the game in the country that players will gradually develop themselves.”
Glenn said it was a hard match and it was good that they worked overtime to get through.
“This shows that PNG has a lot of passion for the game and what was given to us is incredible and something we will treasure.”
