Huon Gulf funds K6.5m construction of five roads
The National, Thursday February 25th, 2016
HUON Gulf district in Morobe is funding the construction of five roads for K6.5 million to promote economy activities, MP Ross Seymour says.
The new roads run from Rumion to Mama-Bogeba (35km for K2m), Wagau in Buang, Bulolo to Bumatu in Salamaua (20km for K500,000), Lower Watut (K1m) and Malarina-Wawas (K500,000).
The Wagau-Bumatu access is a joint venture project between Huon Gulf and Bulolo for the border communities.
The road from Morobe to Pema (K2m is 35km) and the fromAsini to Hote (K1.5m for 35km).
The district spent K5 million on the additional machinery delivered to local level governments to support the existing equipment.
Seyymour said K300,000 was allocated to build the Sapa Bridge in Morobe. Seymour denied receiving any provincial services programme funds from Morobe Governor Kelly Naru despite announcing commitments in constructing various roads and bridges.
“But as usual, it was never honored in the 2016 provincial government budget,” Seymour said.
“Only K30,000 was given for various bridges in the district, which is a joke.
“Trucks and Lucas mills were bought and distributed to the three LLGs.”
