THE Warangoi hydropower station rehabilitation work in East New Britain is on track with the entire power house and switch yard equipment dismantled and removed from the station according to PNG Power Ltd.
PNG Power said on its Facebook page that remedial work at the intake and tunnel was progressing well with the flume line old concrete walls being demolished and tunnel keystones being repaired.
The station was shut down last June to undergo major rehabilitation.
“The Warangoi hydropower station in the last several years operated below its full capacity of 10MW,” it said.
“The rehabilitation will ensure the hydropower station be capable of operating at its required capacity.
“This will also extend the economic life of the plant by another 20 to 25 years.
“The aim is to deliver a hydropower plant that will be able to produce power at higher capacity.
“Rehabilitation works include improvement works at the intake area, a new control room and refurbishment and replacement of all electromechanical components.
“The Warangoi hydropower station rehabilitation comes under the Tranche 2 funding of the Town electrification investment programme for PNG Power, a project funding between the Government and the Asian Development Bank.
