I represent my members only, says president

POLICE Association president Lowa Tambua says the majority of retrenched policemen complaining about their retrenchment packages are not association members.
“Let us put matters into perspective,” he said.
“I represent my members only, but I have been so kind sacrificing my time for non-members as well.
“I have attended their meetings several times.
“But every time, they have manufactured claims without standing, so I have tasked them to provide me with genuine documents containing legitimacy but they have not done so.”
Tambua said this yesterday after Port Moresby-based retrenched members complained that he had been neglecting them in addressing their benefits.
The members met on Saturday claiming that their payout was short of what was expected.
“We served over 40 years in the Royal PNG Police Constabulary and we deserve a better package,” Tambua said.
“Also, there are outstanding entitlements that had yet to be settled.
“Like our engagement in the 2018 Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) security operation.
“We never got the full allowances.”
The members claimed that they did not get the golden hand-shake special retrenchment packages that Prime Minister James Marape had promised when he opened the Australian government funded renovated Waigani Police Station.
