A MAN facing arson charges had tried to seek justice from the community law and order agents, he told the Lae district court.
Alo Minapa, 18, from Sembirigi, in Southern Highlands, appeared before magistrate Posain Poloh this week charged with the burning down of a house at Tent City last November.
Police said he had been angry and had threatened to burn down the house on at least two occasions.
Minapa is a guard with Kuima Security Services.
He said he was angry after being attacked by some men after the 50th Morobe Agriculture Show last October.
He said they took his female companion and kept her overnight.
He said he knew one of his attackers and had wanted to reclaim his possession which included an Esky, K300 and school certificates.
The next morning he filed a complaint with the Tent City police station.
The woman was returned at 6pm. She was from Southern Highlands.
Minapa said he had sought help from the ward law and order committee but was ignored.
He then went to the Bumayong police station and filed another complaint but again nothing was done.
In another case, a man has been charged with assault for avenging his brother being bashed.
The man, Dadi Woni, 25, from Mou village, told
the court yesterday he had been angry that his elder brother had been kicked, punched and thrown into the sea at Voco Point last October.
Woni punched a ship engineer Aaron Bari, 48, in the mouth, dislodging three front teeth.
