COMPENSATION claims for State land on which Ialibu town in Southern Highlands is located are hindering development, a local leader said.

Tangiki Yamuru Association chairman Samuel Konda said the elders and leaders of the Ialibu tribes had agreed to establish the town in the late 1950s.

“The people demanding compensation for the Ialibu town land are doing so without following due processes. They are hindering progress and expansion of the Ialibu township,” Konda said.

At Nipa station in the Nipa-Kutubu district, landowners moved in to occupy State land and buildings.

The Nipa district administration brought in the police to remove them.
