DEPARTMENT of Environment and Conservation (DEC) now has a website which people around the world access to get scientific data on Papua New Guinea’s rich biodiversity.
DEC secretary Dr Wari Iamo launched the new website last week saying this was an important tool in promoting the country’s rich natural resources and biodiversity and telling the world what we are doing in preserving these resources.
“Through the website, we can also hook up with sister institutions and organisations around the world who are party to the Rio convention on climate change and see how we are progressing toward achieving environmentally sustainable economy,” Dr Iamo said.
“The website can be seen as a medium for interacting with informed stakeholders globally and with PNG,” he added.
Dr Iamo said the website was still in the developing stage as there was whole lot more information that needed to be uploaded.
“The site currently features the 14 conventions on Rio Convention on Climate Change which PNG is a signatory, the six legislations (environmental laws and treaties) including DEC 2009 Corporate Plan and annual reports.”
The website can be access by following the link www.dec.gov.pg.
