Iarowari school needs a change
The National – Thursday, July 7, 2011
I WOULD like to enlighten parents, school board, Central education officers and other stakeholders on what is wrong with the Iarowari High School.
After discussing at length with other parents, we feel it is necessary to make public our findings so that actions can be taken to rectify the situation.
I would like to point out that last year, most students who attended the school failed to proceed to Grade 11.
Of the 300-plus Grade 10, only about 50 made it to Grade 11.
Most of them scored upper passes and passes while only a handful scored distinctions and credits.
The results, which I got from the Central education department, showed there is no improvement under the current headmaster.
Other problems include food or rather the lack of it, run-down dormitories, unhygienic ablution blocks, and students being abused and assaulted by teachers’ relatives.
I took time off to visit the school and check its facilities and I was shocked with what I saw.
I call on the education department to conduct a surprise check and remove the school head and his deputy as they have let the students and school down.
I also call on the board
to convene an emergency parents and community meeting to table all reports.
