THE Papua New Guinea Electoral Commission has given K35,000 to

the Institute of Business Studies (IBS) for the school debate competition this year.

The Electoral Commission has been the major sponsor of the school competition since 2011.

The school debate competition coordinator Vani Nades said the commission had been sponsoring the worthy cause for the third year in a row, showing it was passionate about developing young leaders.

“The PNG Electoral Commission

recognises the competition as an avenue to build our human resource and create much needed awareness

on election-related issues,” Nades said.

She said the IBS team would work closely with the Electoral Commission to come up with more election-related topics to be debated during the competition.

Twelve provinces are expected to participate in this year’s competition with the latest inclusions including Gulf, Western, Jiwaka and Eastern Highlands.

The 2013 IBS school debate

competition begins on May 6 with Central opening the debate in Port Moresby.
