THE Independent Consumer and Competition (ICCC) has fined a total of eight shops in Kudjip, Minz and Banz in Jiwaka this week for overpricing declared items, an official says.
ICCC commissioner and chief executive officer Paulus Ain said the fines totalled up to K80,000.
He said the fine for each shop was K10,000.
“All the three shops in Kudjip were fined, they include Long Shun Trading Ltd, Doley Trading Ltd and Comilla Holdings,” he said.
“Of the nine retail and wholesale shops in Banz town, fines were issued to a total of four shops including WCH Investment Ltd, Huada Enterprise Ltd and two other shops operating under business name YDL Investment.
“One shop (Xin Yun Trading) in Minz was also issued infringement notice for breaching the price order 11.
“The traders are expected to pay up the fine or respond within two weeks.”
Ain said that certain traders and shop managers, especially of foreign origin, were showing resistance and trying to obstruct the work that ICCC was doing by not signing notices from ICCC or withholding information.
“They are doing this to the extent of being violent and confrontational.”
These traders are warned that our laws will deal with them accordingly.
