EASTERN Highlands Governor Peter Numu has urged the Independent Consumer and Competition Commission (ICCC) to establish an office in Goroka to monitor and regulate the prices of goods in the province.
Numu said this while raising concerns on the increase of prices of goods in shops; especially foreign-owned shops in Goroka and Kainantu.
“I have received many complaints from small and ordinary people on the increasing price of goods,” he said.
“I have seen and realised that the increase in the price of goods in shops in Goroka is affecting my ordinary people.”
Numu gave the example of rice, a staple food of Papua New Guineans, which saw an increase from K60 to K97 for a 20kg bag of rice.
