ICT sector needs restructure

Letters

FROM the outset, it would seem the national broadcaster – NBC – is in trouble with its dilapidated infrastructure and its outdated programmes.
However, the gloomy picture of a deteriorating communications infrastructure and administrative in-efficiency speaks for the whole information, communication and technology sector.
It is already posing a national security concern for this country.
The affected individuals would argue that many of these issues compounded over the years.
But looking closer one will come to agree that the sector is a very incapacitated and lacks solid legislative and policy reforms.
It is a sad case scenario thus the Government needs to step in and restructure the ICT sector.
The recent challenge by the Minister to the new NBC board though addressed to NBC, is a call on the department, NICTA and other agencies to pull up and deliver efficient services required at their executive level.
Presently, many ICT issues are emerging in the country such as the technology enabled learning on the back of Covid-19.
