EDUCATION can be achieved not only through academic means but through developing one’s talent, a Miss PNG contestant says.
Miss Paga Hill Estate (PHE) 2019, Lucy Maino, said everyone had God-given talent and they needed to identify and develop it in order to live a fuller life and be better, useful members of society.
Mino said these talents could form the foundation for people, especially the youth, and help them prosper.
The 24-year-old thanked her major sponsor, PHE, for the initiative provided for her to represent them at the 2019 pageant.
“Paga Hill Estate’s sponsorship is a commitment to empower women,” she said.
“That is why I stand before you today to promote the cause of female empowerment, especially through education.
“I obtained my degree through a soccer scholarship in the United States because they saw my talent in high school and it took me to the collegiate level.”
Maino’s story is a testament of education through sports and she believes there are others with similar stories.
She is the co-captain of the national women’s soccer team that won gold medal at the recent Pacific Games in Samoa.
PHE chief executive officer Gudmundur Fridriksson said the company was committed to helping young Papua New Guineans.
Fridriksson said Maino had been an incredible ambassador promoting all aspects of PNG to the world and they were proud to get behind the 2019 pageant. “We are particularly proud to be able to sponsor Lucy Maino,” he said.
Speaking on behalf of the MPIPNG, Miss PNG Pacific Islands Leoshina Kariha thanked PHE for their valuable sponsorship.
