INDEPENDENT candidate Henao Iduhu is leading the race for the Kairuku-Hiri seat with 2,686 votes after count two yesterday. 
Iduhu from Gaire village in Central province shot to the lead after collecting 1,881 votes on Monday night and another 805 from the Tubusereia and Mt Diamond wards before lunch yesterday.
He is followed by sitting MP Paru Aihi on 948 votes, Peter Wap on 624, Aria Hegame on 477 and Steven John on 467.
Returning officer Edward Kila said counting for the Kairuku-Hiri seat was progressing well.
Kila said security personnel including police and soldiers were monitoring the movement of scrutineers, counting officials and supporters in and around the counting venue.
Anyone who breached rules will be removed from the area immediately, he said.
