INDUSTRIAL training is a prerequisite for students attending most tertiary institutions as part of the assessments and to familiarise themselves with the workplace environment.
However, tertiary institutions often face complications when trying to secure placements for their students in the workforce.
Ten students from the IEA College of TAFE are very fortunate to be considered for industrial training with the Papua New Guinea Ports Corporation Ltd.
Lae Port has taken another batch of students for industrial training.
These students work under the supervision of experienced Lae Port staff at respective sections of the busy port.
Training officially started on Oct 24 and will end on Nov 18.
The students are undertaking certificate and diploma programmes offered by the IEA College of TAFE in different disciplines majoring in business clerical, business administration, accounting, financial services, information technology and hospitality.
It is a requirement of the IEA College under its post-secondary TAFE training programme that each student undertake workplace training before the completion of their course in order to graduate at the end of the year.
PNG Ports Corporation Ltd has continued to foster its community service initiatives through such placements and is proud to help these students and aims to continue doing so in the future, the company said.
