EIGHTEEN volunteers from selected settlements around Port Moresby will undergo 18 months of early childhood learning and care training facilitated by the International Education Agency (IEA) of PNG’s TAFE and supported by World Vision PNG’s education project in Port Moresby.
Port Moresby project manager Rose Niki acknowledged IEA’s contribution towards the facilitation of training for the Volunteers.
During the official opening of the training programme this week at the World Vision office, Niki commended partners like independent charity organisation ‘Buk Bilong Pikinini’ for their continues work and support towards early child hood literacy programs in the communities.
World Vision newly-appointed operation manager Smith Sapaka commended the partnership of TAFE IEA and World Vision to continue on and extended an invitation for similar support to volunteers in World Vision’s target communities in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville and Madang programme.
Sapaka outlined the importance of early childhood education and learning as the way forward for PNG and said it is therefore important that volunteers in the communities have the right knowledge and understanding of early childhood learning and care.
Sapaka commended TAFE IEA as one of the leading education agencies in providing quality education and the opportunity for the volunteers to undergo training with them is great.
The first three months of training ends in April where the volunteers will continue the practical component until September where the second part of training commences until November.
The third and final part of the training is from February 2017 to April where the volunteers will graduate with a certificate program from TAFE College.
Elisabeth Lovatu, community volunteer at 9-Mile Kerema Block thanked World Vision for giving her the opportunity to take part in the training programme.
Lovatu said it was important children learn early, adding that children in the settlements can be able to learn to read and write properly if there is someone who is trained properly on early childhood is there in the community to help them and so the and thus the importance of this training.
