Ilimo products available in shops for Lae residents

LAE residents now have access to Ilimo Dairy Products, the only dairy products produced in Papua New Guinea by Papua New Guineans.
Ilimo Dairy is working with a local Lae distributor, Pelgen’s, to ensure fresh-tasting and nutritious Ilimo Dairy products are now accessible in Lae.
Both fresh and flavoured milk products are now available in Lae.
Free tastings have taken place around the city since the product hit stores late last month.
Ilimo Dairy operator Innovative Agro Industry (IAI) PNG chairman Ilan Weiss said: “Expanding our distribution to Lae is essential to curbing the cost of fresh milk to domestic households.
“It is important that consumers understand the difference between fresh milk and UHT milk.
“Our locally-produced product is a premium product, with superior taste and nutritional benefits.”
Weiss said IAI was working on developing a second dairy in Morobe.
“Creating jobs in the agriculture sector and out-grower opportunities for local farming communities are a big priority as we continue with our plans,” he said.
IAI business development manager Gallit Tamir said: “The fantastic response to our products in Lae through the free tasting events has been amazing. We are very happy.
“Engaging with our local communities is a big part of what we do as a business and we are looking forward to more opportunities.”
“With every purchase of Ilimo Dairy products, consumers are supporting the development of a local dairy industry for PNG, the creation of new jobs and more opportunities for out-grower farmers that produce maize, an important component of the feed for our herd.”
IAI PNG is working with both public sector and private sector partners to develop sustainable commercial agriculture projects throughout PNG that create avenues for meaningful participation for local communities.
Ilimo Dairy Farm, the only producer of fresh milk in the country, is located at 14-Mile in Central and is Papua New Guinea’s only commercial dairy operation.
The operation is a partnership between operators IAI PNG, the State and the people through their provincial government.
