Immigration to expand presence: ICA

THE Immigration and Citizenship Authority (ICA) will soon establish offices at logging and mining sites around the country to ensure genuine people are entering the country, an official says.
ICA chief migration officer Stanis Hulahau said this was part of the reforms at ICA.
He said this at the opening of an ICA office at the Motukea International Terminal outside Port Moresby yesterday.
“So now we not only cover the airlines, the ships, but we are now looking into mining and logging sites, where PNGICA at the moment dose not have a presence but we clear people on batch processing.
“We will now look at officers moving into those sites (logging and mining) so that they can also have a presence and making sure that the right people and genuine persons come into our country and operate business and prevent the illegal movement of people.
“This is our focus in terms of reforms, having more presence of PNG immigration throughout PNG,” Hulahau said.
“One of my goals as the new chief immigration officer is to roll out reforms in the immigration sector.”
