A CIVILIAN dressed in a police uniform who held up staff of a company in Port Moresby has been jailed for eight years.
Joel Joe Kapinias, of Rapitok village in East New Britain, was sentenced by the National Court in Bomana outside Port Moresby for stealing K315 from company staff at Gordon on Jan 28, 2015.
Kapinias pleaded guilty and apologised for what he did. He asked the court to impose a light sentence.
The court heard that he was wearing a police uniform and carrying a gun when he entered the gate with his brother Jerome asking to see the manager.
The security guard allowed them in after they had signed the register.
Once inside, he pulled out all the telephone lines and ordered everyone to lie on the floor. He grabbed the cash from the cashier and walked out after he could not open the safe. The two left in a waiting vehicle.
They did not know that they were caught on a CCTV camera. They were traced and arrested.
