THE Tusbab Stallions have called on the Papua New Guinea Football Association (PNGFA) and the Kumul Petroleum National Soccer League (NSL) to impose player-transfer fees.
Tusbab made the call last month following the opening of a third transfer window which saw Stahl Gubag leave the Madang club for Lae City.
The striker joined former Stallions captain Nigel Malagian at the defending champions, who are coached by former national men’s team boss Bob Morris.
Tusbab patron Conrad Wadunah told The National that the approach would create a win-win situation for everyone involved.
“The fee will actually benefit the club transferring the player, NSL and the player himself,” he said.
“The fee will also help clubs invest resources in developing young players for other sides to buy.
“It will also ensure that rival coaches and managers negotiate with team managements instead of approaching players directly.
“While it may be too early for discussions, I believe we have to start somewhere so that we can strengthen our systems sooner rather than later.”
Meanwhile, club president Afinini Tawi said in a statement that the departure of Gubag and Malagian had created a void in the squad.
“We congratulate Gubag on his performances, which attracted City’s attention, and we wish him well,” Tawi said.
“At the same time, I call on the NSL and PNGFA to impose stringent measures on player transfers, including having a fee in place.”
Meanwhile, the Stallions are fourth on the ladder with five wins, two draws and three losses after 10 rounds of the regular season.
The Stallions are expected to play their remaining eight matches away in Port Moresby and Lae due to PNGFA’s decision to rule out Goroka and Madang as hosts over the Covid-19 pandemic.
