Improve health, education systems

Letters

THE global community is now learning a great deal from the current coronavirus pandemic.
The post coronavirus pandemic life would be different and PNG should be no exception.
I applaud the Prime Minister James Marape on his sweep action to lockdown the country right after the declaration of the first Covid-19 case.
Let’s reflect to how far we have come as a nation before we were attacked by this invisible enemy –coronavirus.
The coronavirus pandemic has checked our balance.
Certain public services that are vital and necessary for improving the quality of life for our people such as health and education, though has been prioritised, still needs critical attention.
It is time the Government give serious thoughts into improving the standards and facilities of our educational and health systems so our country can be better equipped for such future attacks.
In order for our country to achieve Vision 2050, we need a strong and healthy population.
A quality education system complementing a healthy labour force is vital for our country as these two go hand in hand. If we have an uneducated healthy population or an educated and not healthy population, how can we achieve our national goals and Vision 2050?
The Government should take the current setback as an advantage and make some improvements to such public service utilities.
As taxpayers we want a better outcome of our money and health and education are two very important areas for us as a developing country.
The Government should make our education system flexible by introducing online and e-learning and make it compulsory.
Upgrade our health care facilities to a more quality standard so in the future there won’t be inconveniences like what we’re being faced today.
Furthermore, there are also many other areas that still needs improvement such as better road networks, agriculture and food security etc.
Time is still on our side and we can make it happen to achieve Vision 2050.
It is never too late to do anything under the sun, as long as we have the right planning mechanisms and the strategies in place and start to effectively implement them.

  • Sure, Covid-19 has given the world a new outlook in doing things….the country is no exception.
PNG has its boxes ticked in all areas mentioned. The gov’t through it’s policy makers, strategists, advisors etc must identify the root causes why we don’t have access to better health facilities, education, road networks, ICT networks and so forth. Unless they’re diagnosed with right treatments than we won’t access better services/facilities. It is sad to say that but that’s the fact, we have to go back to where it all started and do a bottom up clean-up.
