Improve safety at sea first

WHILE we are still grieving and waiting to see those people responsible for the loss of 171 innocent lives on the ill-fated Rabaul Queen disaster off the coast of Finschaffen, I am amazed to note that the MV Kimbe Queen had been allowed to operate between Lae and the NGI ports, ferrying passengers and cargo.  Isn’t this ship operated by the same group of companies that owned Rabaul Queen, whose case has been dragging on for four years? What happened to that government authority tasked with the responsibility of enforcing the maritime laws of this country?  We could have lost another 49 people recently when it ran aground off the coast of East New Britain. This raises serious issues about the existence of the National Maritime Safety Authpority The NMSA is either efficient in its operations or it is toothless.
