Improve standard of police
The National, Thursday 06th December, 2012
I SEE police officers as saviours of citizens, not hooligans, and I admire them for their high standard of discipline.
They also ensure a safe and conducive environment so that no one lives
in fear, so well done.
However, there are a few officers who are ill-trained, who harass and intimidate the public, of-ten under the influence of alcohol.
They tarnished the good image of the force.
They should not abuse their position of power and use the firearm that they have been issued with.
Police officers have a duty to citizens and must respect their profession.
I despise the handful of policemen and women who misbehave.
Their limited knowledge and short training period are not enough.
I urge the government and the RPNGC to improve the code of conduct and ethics of our policemen and women.
Instead of recruiting Grades 10 and 12 drop-outs, consider college graduates instead.
Extend the training period from six months to at least three years and provide overseas training to equip them better.
