In court on rape charge
A 24-YEAR-OLD man was read his rape charge yesterday at the Committal Court in Waigani after a drinking session at the Taurama beach in Port Moresby.
Magistrate Danny Wakikura told Duncan Duboba, of Eroro village, Ijivitari, Northern, that the case would be adjourned to May 26.
Magistrate Wakikura ordered the man to be remanded.
Police alleged that at about 9pm on April 18, Duboba was with the woman drinking alcohol at the beach.
After finishing drinking at about 1am, Duboba escorted the woman to her residence. However, police alleged that Duboba went into the woman’s house and into her room.
Duboba asked if he could stay over for the night since it was late and she agreed.
The woman gave Duboba a space to sleep.
Police alleged that while sleeping, Duboba got up and started undressing the woman and raped her.
Duboba was arrested in the morning and detained in the Gerehu Police Station lock-up.
He was formally charged on April 23 at the Boroko Police Station.
