A WOMAN accused of sending threatening text messages to another woman appeared in court on a charge of cyber harassment.
Ruth John Seti, 30, from Yaken village, Imbonggu, Southern Highlands, appeared before the Committal Court at Waigani for allegedly sending a number of text messages to Shernley Turi.
Seti suspected that the victim was having an affair with her husband. On Aug 24 at 10.16am in Block 6 at Nigibata Settlement, Gerehu, Seti allegedly called the victim but did not speak when the Turi’s sister answered the phone.
A minute later, she texted Turi using insulting words.
She then sent another text message threatening Turi: “Avinun you ba facim me so yu redi na stap!” (You will face me in the afternoon, so get ready).
Turi alerted her family members of the text message.
At 10.19am, Seti sent another text saying: “Yu bai explain, my friend!” (You will explain, my friend!).
A minute later, Seti sent a final text which read: “Yu ting Seti karim moni kam na yu ansa ah? Yu no sawe olsem ba mi tokim hait pasin 4 utupla ah?” “Sori yu cat 4 haus yah”. (Were you expecting Seti to bring money when you answered the phone? I will reveal all your secrets. You are just a cat meant for the house.)
Turi said she was able to identify Seti by her last text message.
She raised a complaint to the police and the police arrested Seti on Aug 25.
When questioned by police, Seti admitted that she sent the text messages to Turi. The case was adjourned to Oct 8.
