INADEQUATE funding has stopped the Rabaul district administration from completing the ring road on Watom Island, Rabaul MP Dr Allan Marat says.

Marat has asked the district administration to conduct another feasibility study on the construction of a ring road around the island.

Construction of part of the road had been carried out five years ago giving accessibility to some villagers but a component of the project was never completed due to inadequate funding.

“I urge officers to carry out another study with scoping work and funding to complete the whole ring road project,” he said.

Marat said the road construction when completed would give accessibility by road to the ward areas of Rau, Taranata, Valaur to Rakival connecting to the government station at Vunakabai in the Watom local level government.

He said this should be done at once so that funding could be released from the 2016 District Services Improvement Programme fund allocations.

Other incomplete projects were the tourism development of the Lapita site and the Tokyo Dive Centre.
