THE Moresby South Rugby Football League competition is no longer an off-season competition in the National Capital District.

As an affiliate of the Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League since last year, the competition to be played at the Sir William Skate Oval at Kaugere is set to start its inaugural season in March.

This follows a positive response to their nines tournament staged in December to gauge the interest in the Moresby South electorate.

The executives headed by president Solomon Lawsi are now calling for an urgent meeting of all clubs within the Moresby South electorate to attend an urgent meeting this Saturday at the Ela Beach Amphitheatre to confirm teams participation.

“This is to get our house in order for our two weeks of pre-season towards the end of this month,” Lawsi said.

Lawsi said it is imperative that representatives from 6-Mile, Kipo, Vadavada, KC Settlement, Taurama, Tuna Bay, Mahuru, Epekorosi,

Sabama, Joyce Bay, Kaugere, Vabukori, Gabutu, Vanagi, 2-Mile, Gorobe, Talai, Koki, Paga Hill and Konedobu attend. The meeting will start at 10:30am. Clubs are advised to contact Lawsi on Ph. 71235671 or vice-president Brown Murema on Ph. 73419466 to provide names of their delegates to attend the meeting. He said agenda items include confirmation of clubs for the 2014 season, club and player registration fees and any other business of interest.

“I stress that entry will be strictly by name,” Lawsi added.

In regards to usage of the venue by other interested parties including the Ipatas Cup or the Digicel Cup, Lawsi clarified that they as custodians of the oval have yet to receive any official word in black and white.

“We are open for discussions but it must be made official as we want to develop this venue as well and everything must be done transparently for the long term benefit of our communities at Kaugere.”
