THE 2013 inaugural Agara Engineering National Women’s Snooker titles cues off tonight in Port Moresby.

PNG Billiards and Snooker Association (PNGBSA) committee member Joe Chan said yesterday that this year’s event has attracted 34 players.

Reigning champion and BSP Oceania runner up Geua John will be aiming for a record eighth consecutive title, but this time would face some challenge from her fellow PNG representatives at the recent Oceania championships in Port Moresby.

“Last year’s runner up and Oceania semi-finalist Helen Samuel and fellow PNG representatives Damita Bray, Jane Laigi, Waisina Laho, Tanya Mossman-Tam and Samarita Korimbo, who also participated in the Oceania titles, should lift their games to another level and an interesting finish to the finals on Sunday will be on the cards,” Chan said.

“Most of the women play in the Pacific MMI Port Moresby corporate snooker competition,” he said.

He said the tournament director is Richard Whitchurch assisted by Joey Chan and Ida Keni.

Chan thanked major sponsors Agara Engineering for stepping in to sponsor this prestigious women’s event, gold sponsors Graffiti Signs and Freeway Motors, silver sponsors Vitis Industries and Whisper PNG and bronze sponsor Evandar Ltd.
