Increase salary for elementary teachers

Letters

SINCE the inception of elementary education into the mainstream education system under the universal education reform, there were many criticisms against the system.
Even successive governments don’t have the know-how to transform this system into a workable one that suits student learning.
Respect should be given to this system and the silent ones served the country through the trial and error phases in bringing elementary education to where it is today.
Elementary education is not a failed system.
Many developed countries around the world have successfully utilised it.
Look at where they are now.
A few smart people with their cronies are using the system to make millions of kina to fill their pockets by introducing and reintroducing new curriculums under the pretext of students’ learning.
They were all fabricated lies.
Put more resources into elementary education and try to understand the need of teachers on the ground.
One of their grievances is salary.
Elementary school teachers in Japan and Australia are well paid, compared to those in Papua New Guinea.
Teachers are told to end classes at 2pm.
The normal working hours are from 7.45 am to 12pm.
The increase in working hours mean there should be an increase in pay as well.
Can the authorities look into this?
We should treat elementary teachers as professionals.
Developing our human resource starts with them.
Even for failure or success.
Come on Teaching Service Commission, Education Department and the Government, do something.
