THE Pacifika Women’s Network trade centre in Port Moresby has again shut its operations because of the non-payment of rent by tenants involved in small-medium enterprisess.
Tinah Kama of Bayagoudi Artifacts who has been operating there for two years said she would be operating from elsewhere but hoped that the Government could support them. She also has a flower shop at the centre.
Finance manager Norman Mange said the centre would reopen after paying the outstanding rent. It has been operating since 2018 and supports 87 women in business. The property owned by Pacific Palms Property.
“We have been struggling to pay the rent. Some of the women do not pay because of the shortfall in their sales.
“The founder paid her own money to support the trade centre.
“Now that we are unable to operate because of the Covid-19 situation,” Kama said.
The centre was closed during the Covid-19 lockdown this year as well.
